Position:  Disability Support Worker

Award and Condition: Kyeema Enterprise Agreement

Responsible to: Support Services Manager and ultimately the Chief Executive Officer

Hours: By Arrangement

Location: 50 Lalor Street, Portland and in the community

 

Objective of role:

Provide high quality support to people with a disability, helping them to best achieve their goals in way that upholds their dignity and human rights.

 

Participant Specific:

    To foster the independence of a person with a disability

    To provide support to individuals or small groups to increase independence, to take responsibility, and to be involved in decision making.

    To work in line with the individuals support plan goals.

    To work in liaison with Managers, House Supervisor, Team Leaders, and Program Planners as required.

    To carry out duties in a manner which demonstrates respect for the rights and dignity of participants and acknowledges the contributions each participant makes.

    To assist participants to access services and facilities within the community, providing direct transport assistance and / or travel training.

    To assist participants with matters of personal hygiene, eating and toileting, and / or related skill development, while respecting the individual’s dignity and privacy.

    To liaise with other Support Workers, Program Planners, Team Leaders, Supervisors and Managers about individual and group activities.

    To be responsible for money management as required; that is to support participants to safely manage their money and collect receipts where required.

 

Responsibilities:

    Ensure work practices are compliant with the Disability Standards.

    Attend staff meetings where possible

    Undertake duties as rostered

    Abide by the O.H.&S regulations and legislative requirements

    Maintain effective workplace relations via honest and respectful communication with work colleagues

    Undertake training offered by the Management Team.

    Participate in staff appraisals with a Manager or Team Leader.

    Attend the Annual General Meeting if able to

    Respond to changing support needs by being flexible with work times where appropriate and by negotiation with the Manager.

    Willingness to be flexible in taking on different duties and activities as programs and participant goals change.

 

Bus and Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibilities:

 

    ensure the safety of passengers as per Kyeema’s Participant transportation procedures

    operate buses and cars in accordance with relevant road laws, other applicable legislation and Kyeema policies

    advise an Admin Officer of any damage, defects, or safety issues discovered during the operation of the bus

    report any incidents, injuries or accident report forms as required

    have zero alcohol or drugs present in their blood

    immediately report to their Manager any matters relevant to the currency of their driver’s licence, including details of any criminal charges or offences

    immediately report any health issues or other issues that may affect their fitness to drive

    follow policies, procedures and safety instructions

    Be aware that under the terms of the Bus Safety Act (2009) workers who drive a Kyeema bus are Bus Safety Workers. This entails induction and ongoing requirements relating to safety

 

Child Safe Responsibilities:

 

      Kyeema holds a policy of zero tolerance to racism and has expectations that staff and volunteers will act on incidents of racism

      Kyeema has systems to protect children from abuse, will take all allegations very seriously and will respond to them consistently in line with Kyeema’s policies and procedures  

      Kyeema is committed to promoting cultural safety of Aboriginal children, cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability.  

      Kyeema is committed to ensuring the acceptance and inclusion of participants' and workers' gender identities 

 

 

Administrative tasks:

    To maintain accurate time sheets for submission fortnightly to administration

    To access work emails on a regular basis

    To undertake any written documentation and reports, as well as verbal reporting as requested by management

    To complete daily activity/outing notes for each individual participant

 

Requirements of Position:

    Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module

    100 Points ID

    Driver’s Licence

    Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate

    Working with Children’s Check

    NDIS Worker Screening Check Clearance

    First Aid Certificate

    CPR Certificate

    Read and acknowledge NDIS Code of Conduct

    Undergo Bus Safety Worker induction prior to driving Kyeema buses
