Policy

Kyeema Support Services Inc. (Kyeema) support workers/staff should not work with infectious conditions that could place participants, families and other staff workers at risk

 

Scope

All staff employed with Kyeema Support Services Inc.

 

Outcomes

Support Staff will be aware of conditions that preclude them from duties

 

The risk of transmitting infectious diseases will be minimized.

 

Principles & Procedures

 

As per the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009

 

Disease

Amoebiasis (Entamoeba histolytica)

Remove from work

Exclude until there has not been a loose bowel motion for 24 hours

Campylobacter

Remove from work

Exclude until there has not been a loose bowel motion for 24 hours

Chicken Pox

Remove from work

Exclude until all blisters have dried.  This is usually at least 5 days after the rash appears in unimmunised children, but may be less in previously immunised children

Conjunctivitis           

Remove from direct participant contact

Until discharge ceases

Diarrhoea

Remove from work

Exclude until there has not been a loose bowel motion for 24 hours.

Diphtheria

 

Exclude until medical certificate of recover is received following at least two negative throat swabs, the first not less that 24 hours after finishing a course of antibiotics and the other 48 hours later.

Gastro enteritis                  

Remove from work

48 hours after symptoms resolve

Hand, Foot and Mouth disease

Remove from work

Exclude until all blisters have dried.

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)

Remove from work

Exclude until at least 4 days of appropriate antibiotic treatment has been completed.

Hepatitis A   

Remove from Work           

For 7 days after the onset of illness or jaundice

Hepatitis B

Exclusion is not necessary

 

Hepatitis C

Exclusion is not necessary

 

Herpes Simplex (Cold sores)

Remove from direct participant contact

Until lesions dry and heal

Human immuno-deficiency virus infection

Exclusion is not necessary

 

Impetigo

Remove from work

Exclude until appropriate treatment has commenced.  Sores on exposed surfaces must be covered with a water tight dressing

Influenza      

Remove from work

Until symptoms resolve

Leprosy

Remove from work

Exclude until approval to return has be given.

Measles        

Remove from Work           

For 5 days from appearance of rash

Meningitis (bacteria-other than meningococcal meningitis)

Remove from work

Exclude until well

Mumps          

Remove from Work           

For 9 days after onset of swelling

Pertussis (whooping cough)

Remove from Work

Exclude for 21 days after the onset of cough or until they have completed 5 days of a course of antibiotic treatment.

Poliomyelitis

Remove from Work

Exclude for at least 14 days from onset.  Medical Certificate required for person to return to work

Ringworm, scabies, pediculosis (head lice)

Remove from Work

Exclude until the day after appropriate treatment has commenced.

Rubella (german measles)

Remove from Work

Exclude until fully recovered or for at least four days after the onset of rash.

Salmonella, Shigella

Remove from Work

Exclude until there has not been a loose bowel motion for 24 hours.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)

Remove from Work

Exclude until the person has received antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours and is feeling well.

Shingles        

Remove from Work           

For 5 days after first eruption

 

Staphylococcal Infection      

Remove from Work           

Until 24 hours after antibiotic therapy commenced

Streptococcal infection (including scarley fever)

Remove from Work

Exclude until the person has received antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours and is feeling well.

Tuberculosis

Remove from Work

Exclude until receipt of a medical certificate from the treating physician.

Typhiod fever (including paratyphiod fever)

Remove from Work

Exclude until approval received to return to work

Verotoxin producing

Remove from Work

Exclude until approval received to return to work

Escherichia coli (VTEC)

Remove from Work

Exclude until approval received to return to work

Worms (Intestinal)

Remove from Work

Exclude until there has not been a loose bowel motion for 24 hours.
