About the Neighbourhood House Program
The Neighbourhood House Program has run since 1979 in Portland. For around nine years to late 2022 the funding was used by Workskills for programs that met the guidelines but were separate from the actual house at 40 Waratah Cres, Portland (which therefore changed its name to Community House). The users of 40 Waratah Cres wish to again become part of the funded program.
Neighbourhood houses and outreach programs have the capacity to strengthen community connection, develop pride, and foster collaboration and positive community spirit.
People from all walks of life are welcomed, regardless of age, gender, ability, or economic status. This provides the opportunity for people to mix, learn from each other, and support each other.
Neighbourhood houses can form community partnerships with local services providers, small businesses and community groups which can form stronger local community connections.
