Issue Date 17 June 2009
Policy
Kyeema Support Services Inc. (Kyeema) employees are not permitted to work above the height of two (2) metres without Fall Prevention equipment / protection and training.
Definitions
Fall Regulations require an employer to first work out whether there is any chance at all of a fall of more than 2 metres at the workplace (the Regulations call this “identifying a fall hazard”) and if there is a fall hazard, what needs to be done about it. If there is a likelihood of a fall, some action has to be taken to stop a fall happening or if that’s not practicable, reduce the risk of a fall. The Falls Regulations say what process has to be used to control the risk of a fall.
Procedure
• Find the Hazard: Identify tasks where there is a chance of a fall of more than two metres.
• Access Risks: Look at all factors that may contribute to a fall.
• Eliminate / Minimize the Risk: Aim to eliminate risk of a fall. If elimination is not practical, apply risk control measures such as fixed barrier, safety harness and anchoring system or combination of above.
• Ensure equipment is designed and constructed for the task and is used correctly.
• Training and Consultation: Employees to be provided training and instruction about risks of working at heights and in use of equipment. Record of training to be kept for each employees. Only trained and competent employees to work above two metres.
Audit (Records)
Records of employees provided training to be kept as in Occupational Health & Safety Records Management and copy of individual competency kept in employees file.
