Participant Support Procedures > Referrals to Allied Health Services Procedure
Authorised by Chief Executive Officer
Issue Date: 25 November 2019
Participants sometimes require a referral to an Allied Health professional such as an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Speech Pathologist.
- If the person is an NDIS participant such a service may be allowed for in their NDIS Plan. The Local Area Coordinator may make the referral for them.
- If the participant has Support Coordination funded in his or her NDIS Plan, the Support Coordinator may support the participant and/or their family to make the referral, or if needed may do this for the participant.
- If the participant requires the service but does not have it as a funded activity in his or her NDIS Plan, a support worker or team leader may assist the participant or their family in calling the local health service to obtain a mainstream-funded support. The best approach is to ring and find out the most appropriate and current means of referral.
