Policy

Kyeema Support Services Inc. (Kyeema) is committed to providing a safe workplace for all people who visit Kyeema worksites and facilities.

 

Kyeema requires that all staff place their own safety above that of any Kyeema property if confronted by a robber. Report both (robbery/theft) as soon as it is safe to do so.

 

Procedure

To ensure that Kyeema environments remain safe and to minimise the property lost in the event of a robbery or theft.

Scope

This policy extends across all Kyeema sites and workplaces.

The following precautions are to be taken.

      Security Cameras and a Duress Alarm are installed at Seawinds Nursery

      Mirrors are installed at Lalor St and Seawinds Nursery that enable people to see areas not otherwise visible.

      Lalor St Carpark is well lit at night

      Cash on hand is to be kept to a minimum level

      Cash is to be transferred to the bank often

      Cash is to be transferred to the bank at irregular times

      Extra precautions are to be taken with large sums of money

      Doors are to be locked at night when there are a small number of staff remaining on the premises

      Staff are offered training in Ethical Response to Violence every few years.

 

In the event of a robbery Staff are to comply with any requests for Kyeema property from the robber to ensure all Staff and Participants are in the least danger possible.

Police are to be contacted as soon as possible followed by the CEO.

During a robbery Staff should:

      Remain calm

      Listen to the robber(s)

      Abstain from saying anything to antagonise the robber(s)

      Stay further than an arms’ length from the robber(s)

      Attempt to ensure a path of escape is available where possible

      Attempt to avoid being trapped in a corner or small room where possible

Theft may include instances where the loss of funds or property is only discovered after the event. If this is the case police are to be contacted as soon as possible after the theft has been discovered, followed by the CEO.
