DO NOT use this machine unless you have been instructed

in its safe use and operation and have been given permission

 

Description of Work:

Using an Air Compressor

Potential hazards:

i High pressure air in storage cylinder

i Eye and hearing damage

i Unsecured hoses whipping under pressure

i trip hazards

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

 

 

PRE-OPERATION

ü Ensure area is clear and guards are in place

ü All outlets are closed

ü Ensure that all electrical switches and leads are functioning

ü Wear the appropriate PPE

ü Ensure all other workers are clear of the immediate work area

 

SAFE OPERATION

ü Ensure isolation valves are in off position

ü Start the compressor and observe operation

ü Manually test storage cylinder safety valve

ü Drain excess water at cylinder.

ü Examine hoses and attachments for defects before connecting to outlets.

ü Commence work always directing air towards working area

 

POST-OPERATION

ü Shut isolation valves

ü Stop compressor

ü Drain air from lines and cylinder

ü Roll up hoses and ensure work area is left in orderly condition

ü Ensure equipment is returned to storage area after use

 

DON’T

û Do not use faulty equipment. Immediately report suspect machinery.

û Do not blow compressed air onto the skin.
