in its safe use and operation and have been given permission

 

Description of Work:

Using a Leaf Blower

Potential hazards:

i Noise

i Flying debris

i Dust

i Vibration

i Burns from exhaust

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

PRE-OPERATION

ü Locate and ensure you are familiar with all machine operations and controls

ü Check for loose/missing nuts, bolts and screws. Tighten and/or replace as needed

ü Inspect fuel lines, tank and area around carburettor for fuel leaks. Do not operate if leaks are found

ü Ensure all guards are fitted, secure and functional. Do not operate if guards are missing or faulty

 

SAFE OPERATION

ü Ensure that no person or animal is endangered when operating equipment

ü When starting, stand the machine upright on a level surface. Check that blower pipe is not blocked by the ground or by any objects

ü Allow the machine to warm up at fast idle for a few minutes before using

ü Keep a firm grip. Hold handle with fingers together encircling handle

ü Maintain a straight wrist position. Avoid using your wrist in a bent, extended or twisted position

ü Make sure the muffler side of the engine is away from your body to avoid burns

ü Maintain a proper balance and secure footing. Do not work on slippery, unstable surfaces. Do not work in odd positions or on ladders

ü Take wind conditions into account. Avoid open doors and windows

ü Minimise dust by using blower at lower speeds

ü Always keep exhaust area clear of flammable debris

ü Disconnect spark plug wire before you work on the unit or leave it unattended

ü Allow the engine and muffler to completely cool before refuelling or performing any maintenance work

 

POST-OPERATION

ü Remove any foreign material from in and around engine, air intake and guards

ü Keep the work area and implement shed in a safe, clean and tidy condition

 

DON’T

û Do not use faulty equipment.  Report suspect machinery immediately

û Do not use any attachment or accessory unless it is recommended in the operator's manual

û Do not direct the blower towards other people

û Never use a higher speed setting then necessary to perform a task
