DO NOT use this machine unless you have been instructed

in its safe use and operation and have been given permission

 

Description of Work:

Using a Push Mower

Potential hazards:

i Rapidly rotating cutting blades

i Flying debris

i Petrol fumes when refuelling

i Back and shoulder strain

i Trip hazards

i Noise

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

PRE-OPERATION

ü Ensure equipment is free of any signs of wear or damage

ü Check guards ensuring they are in working order

ü Operator to inspect work area to ensure that work surface is even and stable to prevent slips, trips and falls

ü Ensure cutting blades are sharp, secure and in good condition

ü Wear the appropriate PPE

ü Refuel the mower away from any possible sources of ignition

ü Identify stop position on throttle lever

ü Ensure all other workers are clear of the immediate work area

 

SAFE OPERATION

ü Do not use in close proximity to other workers

ü When you start up the machine, listen for unusual noises or vibrations

ü Keep hands, feet and loose clothing away from all moving parts

ü Clear the area of debris that may be thrown

ü Watch for ejected material. Ensure no person or animal is endangered when operating equipment

ü Maintain a proper balance and secure footing

ü Operate at a slow speed slow enough to keep control over unexpected hazards

ü Move in a forward direction

ü When moving on a slope, mow across the slope. This keeps a better distance between you and the mower in case of a slip

ü Ensure motor is stopped and allowed to cool before refuelling or removing catcher

ü Refuel only in a well-ventilated area away from possible ignition sources

ü Never leave mower running unattended

 

POST-OPERATION

ü Shut off the mower after use and before adjusting or cleaning grass clogs

ü Turn off the fuel supply when work is complete

ü Remove any foreign material from in and around engine

ü Ensure equipment is returned to storage area after use

 

DON’T

û Do not use faulty equipment. Report suspect machinery immediately

û Never leave the machine running unattended
