DO NOT use this machine unless you have been instructed

in its safe use and operation and have been given permission

 

Description of Work:

Using Herbicide

Potential hazards:

i Chemical (herbicide) - spills leaks and vapours

i Expired/faulty filter in breathing mask

i Leaking equipment - absorption via skin and inhalation

i Skin contact and ingestion when food comes into contact with contaminated hands

i Wind change

i Drift coming into contact with workers

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

PRE-OPERATION

ü pesticides are mixed in an area with good lighting and ventilation

ü washing facilities are provided

ü spills are cleaned up immediately and properly

ü measuring equipment is rinsed after use

ü workers wash their hands after mixing

ü workers wash their hands before eating drinking or smoking

ü wear the appropriate PPE

ü ensure all other workers are clear of the immediate work area

 

SAFE OPERATION

ü read safety data sheet for glysophate

ü do not spray glysophate if temperature is over 35 degrees

ü reduce exposure to spray drift by spraying on still days

ü workers not involved in spraying activity are kept well away

ü only spray chosen weeds

 

POST-OPERATION

ü Keep pesticides locked away from children and animals

ü Contaminated clothing washed separately

ü Spray nozzles flushed after use

ü Ensure equipment is returned to storage area after use

 

DON’T

û Do not use faulty equipment.  Report suspect equipment immediately

û Do not spray above shoulder height - may cause the operator to be covered by blow back of mist leading to skin exposure plus mist inhaled
