DO NOT use this machine unless you have been instructed

in its safe use and operation and have been given permission

 

Description of Work:

Using a Whipper Snipper or Line Trimmer

Potential hazards:

i Ejected materials

i Hair/clothing getting caught in moving machine parts

i Electrical hazards

i Dust

i Petrol fumes

i Vibrating machinery

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

ü Ensure equipment is free of any signs of wear or damage

ü Check guards ensuring they are in working order

ü Operator to inspect work area to ensure that work surface is even and stable to prevent slips, trips and falls

ü Wear the appropriate PPE

ü Refuel the whipper snipper away from any possible sources of ignition

ü Always turn off the whipper snipper before replacing line

 

SAFE OPERATION

ü Keep hands, feet and loose clothing away from all moving parts

ü Check that ejected debris will not be hazardous to operator or others

ü Ensure proper footing and balance

ü Ensure moving parts have come to a complete stop before performing any maintenance or cleaning

ü Ensure motor is stopped and allowed to cool before refuelling

ü Refuel only in a well-ventilated area away from possible ignition sources

 

POST-OPERATION

ü Ensure moving parts have completely stopped before storing

ü Ensure equipment is returned to storage area after use

 

DON’T

û Never leave whipper snipper running unattended

û Do not overreach while operating whipper snipper

û Do not use faulty equipment.  Report suspect machinery immediately

û Do not use in wet conditions

û Do not raise the line head above knee height
