Award and Condition: Kyeema Enterprise Agreement (Level 4)

 

Hours: Currently 34 per week – 30 on weekdays and 4 on Saturday (at time and a half). Some flexibility.

Responsible to: Kyeema’s Supported Employment Manager 

 

Location: 191 Wellington Rd, Portland

 

Purpose of role

To contribute to Kyeema’s strategic direction in providing supported employment services, in liaison with the Supported Employment Manager.

To oversee the day-to-day planning and running of Seawinds Nursery, a propagation nursery that is also a retail and wholesale business

Provide training & support, maintain/develop skills related to nursery propagation and ensure that individual goals are met.

 

Key Responsibilities

-               Ensure all support provided to Supported Employees aligns with Kyeema’s Vision and Purpose statements

-               Ensure that the operations of Seawinds Nursery are consistent with the established business practices and with the fundamental principles of supported employment

-               Ensure efficient operation of the nursery, monitoring and changing practices as required

-               Assist participants to transition into supported employment and provide ongoing guidance and support

-               Identify and implement strategies to ensure continuous improvement of services

-               Maintain professional networks within the community and surroundings

-               Maintain high quality professional customer service skills 

-               Respond to day-to-day workplace health and safety issue and ensure they meet with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004

 

Supported Employees/participants:

-               Contribute to the supported employees individual planning process, including but not limited to support plans and annual reviews

-               Assist participants to build to skills and professional networks in a supported environment

-               Assist Supported Employees to carry out their job to the best of their ability by clearly defining their role and responsibilities and providing them with adequate resources and training

-               Act as a role model and advocate for the best outcomes for people with a disability

-               Build a trustworthy relationship with participants, carers, families and third parties while maintaining boundaries and privacy

-               Actively contribute to ongoing monitoring and review of your own work practices 

-               Provide a safe, supported and healthy environment for Supported Employees, monitoring their wellbeing and referring to other services as required

-               Help develop employment/support plan goals that best meet the needs of the supported employees    

Business Operations

-       Take a hands-on role in the manual operational tasks associated with including planting, transferring and nurturing.

-       Guide, co-ordinate, encourage and direct support staff and supported employees in all tasks

-       Assist and guide staff in the documentation, and review of programs, job and task analysis and record keeping. 

-       Ensure all contractual obligations are met.  

-       Source, purchase & collect native/non-native seeds. Seasonal purchase of wholesale native trees, fruit trees & ornamentals and co-ordinate deliveries. Frequent purchase of wholesale native and non-native plants from local suppliers- pricing and running inventory on stock.

-       Seasonal scheduling of propagation relating to all non-purchased stock including local Indigenous species, Australian native species, annual vegetable & flowers & Non-native species.

-       Social media marketing and community voice to promote the business.

-       Responsibility for maintaining infrastructure, irrigation and contacting relevant trades people when necessary.

-       Customer service- In person and online.

-       Liaise with local schools, community groups and businesses, advising on relevant planting options.

-       Work with local Aboriginal corporations to process seeds, sow and grow for wholesale orders.

-       Administration duties including invoicing, banking, recording weekly payroll, Carelink notes for supported employees, annual review of goals and seasonal OHS & workplace safety checks.

  Staffing:

-       Supervise Seawinds Nursery support staff and supported employees, including addressing any performance management concerns in a timely manner

-       Recruit appropriately skilled staff, in liaison with other relevant managers and the CEO taking into considering supported employees NDIS plans and funding

-       Maintain an efficient rostering system, covering any staff absences where necessary

-       Coordinate Seawinds staff meetings when necessary

-       Schedule daily tasks that meet the needs of supported employees that are also relevant to the nursery as a business.  Delegate tasks to support staff to assist supported employees. Plan ahead for holidays and absences.

Training

-       Seek relevant training opportunities for professional growth and development

-       Undertake all mandatory training such as CPR and First Aid.

 Quality Assurance

-       Complete all work in line with both internal and relevant external policies and procedures 

-       Support Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures

-       Comply with and maintain an up to date knowledge of all relevant NDIS practice standards

Reporting

-       Report relevant programs, projects and activities to Kyeema’s Management Team Meetings. Verbal report to meeting with written report emailed to Office Manager for inclusion in meeting minutes.

-       Ensure support staff and volunteers complete any incident reporting documentation for signing off and actioning.

 

Facilities and Equipment

-       Ensure general cleanliness and presentation of areas used by Seawinds Nursery including but not limited to vehicles and equipment 

-       Make arrangements, when required, for maintenance to Seawinds Nursery facilities and equipment

Financial

-       Provide the Finance Manager with weekly takings and report

-       Develop budgets for Seawinds Nursery in liaison with Finance manager 

-       Prepare funding submissions, where appropriate, for special projects or equipment.

Other

Oversee input into bi-monthly Kyeema Newsletter, social media and website of Seawinds Nursery (minor).

 

Child Safe Responsibilities

-       Kyeema holds a policy of zero tolerance to racism and has expectations that staff and volunteers will act on incidents of racism

-       Kyeema has systems to protect children from abuse, will take all allegations very seriously and will respond to them consistently in line with Kyeema’s policies and procedures

-       Kyeema is committed to promoting cultural safety of Aboriginal children, cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability

-       Kyeema is committed to ensuring the acceptance and inclusion of participants' and workers' gender identities

 

 

Skills and Qualities required for position of Seawinds Nursery Manager

The following are a mix of qualities, skills and experience required for the position of Seawinds Nursery Manager.

-       An understanding of the Supported Employment model

-       Ability to think quickly and provide hands on approach to emergency situations

-       Key knowledge and understanding of NDIS practice standards

-       Ability to initiate and maintain contacts with a broad range of people and community organisations

-       Ability to relate to supported employees, families and staff and other stakeholders of Seawinds and Kyeema

-       Good organisational skills

-       Administrative, report writing and IT skills

-       Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

-       Commitment to abide by Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
