Social Stories are short descriptions of real life situations that may be individualised to a person’s needs.  The stories are to help people with autism and other disabilities to understand what they might expect from a specific situation or event or assist them to interpret the circumstances surrounding something they may be experiencing.

Social Stories are useful in preparing people for situations they may not have come across before, thereby reducing the anxiety associated with that experience.

Social Stories may be written specifically for an individual or accessed from banks of stories that are published in books and on the internet.

The stories may be read to the person (as many times as needed) and/or read by the individual if he/she is literate.
