Policy

Kyeema is committed to the ongoing training and development of staff in order to enhance skills, improve service delivery for participants and contribute to work satisfaction. This policy applies to full-time, part-time and casual employees of Kyeema Support Services.

Procedure

Staff training is managed in a variety of ways and can include training in general skills and procedures, procedures specific to individual participants and skills specific to staff roles.

Induction and Orientation

Prior to commencing work with participants, staff complete the NDIS Worker Orientation online modules that offer an overview of participant rights and appropriate responses to situations of abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination

New staff members are inducted in site-specific information including OH&S issues and safe working procedures prior to commencing work with participants.

Key policies and procedures are provided in the Staff Handbook, the Code of Conduct, and on the Learning Management System, Sentrient

At periodic intervals when there are a number of new staff, a group induction takes place as required that covers organisational and legislative requirements, with questions and feedback between staff and management regarding any work issues that have arisen.

Training needs are identified

Training, Learning and Development opportunities are identified through a variety of ways and include:

Training identified by staff during staff appraisals. CEO and Managers develop an annual training plan based on training needs identified.

Training required as a result of changes to the legal framework, such as disability practice standards training.

Training identified by managers as necessary to improve practices or increase skills in a particular domain.

Individual staff may identify training opportunities they may wish to pursue.

Information on general disability sector topics provided by government departments, other organisations or networks may present. For example, training in Behaviour Support Plans, Advocacy, and Incident Reporting. Managers identify their own and the support workers’ training needs and organise attendance, with training in targeted groups or as individuals.

Training organised and undertaken

Kyeema Support Services may require you to undertake specific training related to your current position at any time throughout your employment.

Dates for all-staff training half-days are decided upon by managers towards the end of the year for the following year.

Compliance training may be required at any time throughout your employment

Managers (including CEO) assess the topics that have been identified and plan and organise training days. Sometimes this may include booking external training consultants.

Prior Qualifications

If you provide your qualifications and academic transcript, showing completed units, we may give you a credit for any matching Sentrient courses. You will be required to complete ongoing refresher courses and attend training days.

Staff supervised on an ongoing basis

All staff members are provided with regular supervision by the CEO, managers or team leaders in individual or group settings, in order to facilitate their professional development. The aims of supervision may include:

Opening and reinforcing lines of communication between staff and managers, enabling staff to have their needs and views heard

Working to address particular challenges staff may be facing in their work

Ensuring the personal wellbeing of staff

Providing staff with information or guidance relating to their responsibilities

Ensuring that staff continue to be in a position to effectively perform their role

The length and frequency of supervisions may vary depending upon the level of experience, performance, workload and personal circumstances of staff.

Supervisions are briefly documented by the supervisor as notes or emails in Carelink and employee electronic files in K Drive.
