Position: Supported Independent Living (SIL) Manager
This position is temporary until end 2024, after which it is open for review by the incumbent, HR Officer and Kyeema’s new CEO.
Award and Condition: Kyeema Enterprise Agreement
Hours: Part time, approx. 0.2 EFT at commencement. Open to review as required and as budget permits.
Responsible to: CEO
Probation period: Three Months
Location: 50 Lalor Street office, Palmer Street Portland SIL Houses and any potential future SIL homes.
Objective of Role
To support the delivery of high quality Supported Independent Living (SIL) services in a person-centred and strengths-based way in Kyeema’s SIL homes, to enable the residents to live fulfilling and independent lives.
Support the Housing Supervisor in managing staff resources, tasks and liaison with stakeholders associated with residents in the SIL houses.
Develop a good understanding of NDIS Home and Living guidelines for service delivery.
Report performance against key indicators to the CEO for inclusion in CEO/ Management Team operational reports.
Communicate property-related concerns such as repairs and maintenance needs to the Corporate Services Manager.
Staff Management:
Liaise with the Housing Supervisor to assist, guide and support SIL staff to carry out their job by clearly defining roles and responsibilities and providing adequate resources and training |
Ensure that staff members have clearly defined responsibilities and the resources to carry out their work. |
Coach and mentor SIL staff to problem-solve and make decisions in the best interest of residents |
Promote a positive and safe work culture, addressing any conflicts that arise |
Coordinate and participate in staff meetings. Coordinate special staff meetings as required |

Resident focused:
Ensure staff assist residents to develop life skills and encourage independence |
Support the opportunity for residents to engage in meaningful activities inside and outside the home

Build trustworthy relationships with participants, carers, families, other providers while maintaining boundaries and privacy |
Ensure residents and their families are aware of Complaints (Speaking Up) Management systems and Incident Reporting procedures |
Promote advocacy systems that support resident rights such as house meetings and the Community Visitor Scheme |
Support the House Supervisor with implementation and documentation of positive behaviour management strategies where required

Manage resident vacancies in collaboration with the House Supervisor and other relevant stakeholders |
Training:
Maintain responsibility for staff inductions of SIL houses including new staff inductions and fire safety training |
In collaboration with the training officer monitor and document on-going staff training needs |
In collaboration with the training officer have input into the annual training plan noting specific training needs for staff from the SIL area. |
Quality Assurance
Ensure Complaints Management and Incident Reporting systems are adhered to |
Monitor adherence to Practice Standards. |
Provide services in accordance with OH&S guidelines and procedures |
Undertake all work in line with Kyeema policies and procedures and NDIS practice standards |
Reporting:
Develop / maintain and update documents relating to SIL area |
Ensure that all record keeping complies with service standards |
Ensure incidents are reported to the NDIS Commission if they are considered reportable, in-house if not reportable |
Financial and Budgeting monitoring
Prepare and monitor resident rosters of support and be aware of the financial implications of staffing, vacancies and household expenditure |
In liaison with CEO and Finance Manager remain informed about the income and expenses of the relevant program area |

Skills, Qualities Qualifications required for position of Supported Independent Living Manager
The following are a mix of qualities, skills and experience desirable for the position of SIL Manager
• A proven ability to problem-solve and calmly troubleshoot problems that may arise in day-to-day operations
• Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with all Kyeema stakeholders including residents, their families or carers, and Kyeema staff.
• Knowledge of, or the capacity to learn about, the interface between Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and SIL.
• Well-developed time management and organisational skills
• Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
• Effective administrative, report writing and IT skills, including competency with Kyeema’s client management system for rostering and shift-notes
• Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a team environment
• Certificate IV in Disability or other relevant qualification
• NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or willingness to obtain one
• First Aid with CPR
• Driver’s license and reliable vehicle
