We are situated in 191 Wellington Road, Portland at the same location as Portland Aluminium’s Salmon House (see map).

 

Hours of Work:

Seawinds employees start work at 9:30am. Work experience participants start at 10am.

Morning Tea   11.00am – 11:15am

Lunch            1:00pm – 1:45pm

Home at        3.30pm or 4:30pm

 

Working Clothes / Uniform:

All new employees should wear a shirt with long sleeves, work pants or jeans and work boots if possible. A T-shirt is optional for the warmer weather. If working outside all employees are encouraged to wear a hat and to apply sunscreen.

If participant does not have steel capped workbooks; sturdy leather boots or leather snakes are acceptable.

 

Safety Equipment:

When working in conditions that require ear or eye protection; the appropriate equipment will be supplied. Gloves must be worn when dealing with potting mixes, these are supplied.

Hat and sunscreen are available.

 

Snake Identification Information:

Signage is used to educate employees about snakes and snake bite procedure.

 

Location of Facilities:

The toilets are located next to the Seawinds workshop. There are tea and coffee making facilities available in the kitchen area room along with a fridge, microwave oven and sandwich toaster.

 

Restricted Areas:

Seawinds employees are restricted from entering P.A. office areas unless accompanied by a staff member. Restricted areas are clearly marked on the aerial map in the evacuation procedure area.

 

Pay Details:

Seawinds employees receive their wages on Fridays at Seawinds. People involved in the work experience program will be paid $10 per day. Wages will be paid via direct payroll crediting scheme so appropriate form needs to be completed prior to commencement.

 

Safety:

On first day of vocational training an induction will be carried out with vocational training participant and program Manager on site.

This will involve the following (and continue through the vocational training program).

Safe use and handling of trolleys (loading and unloading)

Safe lifting and moving of nursery equipment and plants.

Wearing of safety aids – gloves, earplugs, steel cap boots, block out, hats etc.

 

• Safe use of equipment and appliances (fire extinguisher, gerni machine, electric leads).

• Personal safety moving about the nursery while working

• Evacuation area and procedure

• Location of fist aid

• Emergency phone numbers etc.

• Location of toilets

• Location of restricted areas.

• Awareness of snakes, spiders etc.

• Awareness of Program Managers knowledge of first aid.
