Position:  Windward Industries Manager 

Award and Condition: Kyeema Enterprise Agreement

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Hours: Full time

Location: 50 Lalor Street, Portland & in the community

 

Objective of Role

Management of Windward Industries is a frontline management role to support, mentor and oversee the day-to-day planning and running of Windward Industries while providing support and guidance to supported employees and support workers.

 

This is undertaken within the guidelines for disability employment support & the workplace requirements of Alcoa at the Portland Aluminium Smelter site.

 

Key Responsibilities

         Ensure that the operation of Kyeema’s Supported Employment enterprise, Windward Industries, is consistent with established business practices and with the principles of NDIS supported employment

         Initiate changes to Windward Industries operations where required to improve effectiveness

         Assist participants to transition into supported employment and provide ongoing guidance and support

         Assist participants to build skills and professional networks in a supported environment

         Assist, guide and support direct support staff and supported employees to carry out their job to the best of their ability by clearly defining their role and responsibilities and providing them with adequate resources and training

         Identify and implement strategies to ensure continuous improvement of services

         Maintain professional networks within the community and surroundings

         Maintain high quality professional customer service skills 

         Act as a role model and advocate for the best outcomes for people with a disability

         Build a trustworthy relationship with participants, carers, families and third parties while maintaining boundaries and privacy

         Ensure work practices meet the current Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and Regulations, including site requirements, and respond swiftly where this is not so

         Undertake and complete all work in line with both internal and external policies and procedures

         Ensure all work completed meets the requirements of external auditing agencies

         Comply with and maintain an up to date knowledge of all relevant NDIS practice standards

         Ensure all support provided to Supported Employees aligns with Kyeema’s Vision and Mission statements

         Actively contribute to ongoing monitoring and review of own work practices 

         Provide a safe, supported and healthy environment for all workers, including monitoring wellbeing 

 

Child Safe Responsibilities

       Kyeema holds a policy of zero tolerance to racism and has expectations that staff and volunteers will act on incidents of racism

       Kyeema has systems to protect children from abuse, will take all allegations very seriously and will respond to them consistently in line with Kyeema’s policies and procedures

       Kyeema is committed to promoting cultural safety of Aboriginal children, cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability

       Kyeema is committed to ensuring the acceptance and inclusion of participants' and workers' gender identities

 

Operations

Liaise with customers in a professional manner to develop the scope and frequency of work required

         Take a “hands-on” role in the manual operational tasks associated with all tasks

         Guide, co-ordinate, encourage and direct support staff and supported employees in all tasks

         Assist and guide staff in the documentation, and review of programs, job, task analysis and record keeping    

         Help develop employment/support plan goals that best meet the needs of the supported employees  

         Ensure all contractual obligations are met

         Assist in marketing and advertising of Windward Industries

  

Staffing

         Supervise Windward Industries support staff and supported employees, including addressing any performance management concerns in a timely manner

         Maintain responsibility for staff recruitment and inductions, in liaison with other relevant managers and the CEO and taking into consideration supported employees’ NDIS plans and funding

         Maintain an efficient rostering system, covering any staff absences where necessary

         Assist, guide and support direct support staff and supported employees to carry out their job to the best of their ability by clearly defining their roles and responsibilities and providing them with adequate resources and training

 

Training

         Seek relevant training opportunities for professional development

         Identify initial and ongoing training needs of supported employees and determine the best method to provide this training

 

Quality Assurance

         Be aware of the disability practice standards

         Participate in Kyeema’s quality improvement processes

         Support Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures

         Contribute to the supported employees individual planning process, including but not limited to support plans and annual reviews

 

Reporting

         Report relevant projects and activities to Management Team Meetings.

         Participate in Board or Subcommittee meetings if requested to do so by the CEO.

         Ensure support staff complete any incident reporting documentation for sign- off and action

         Ensure all relevant operational reports are provided to the Finance Manager in a timely manner

         Ensure that all record keeping complies with organisational requirements

 

Facilities and Equipment

         Ensure general cleanliness and presentation of areas used by Windward Industries including but not limited to vehicles and equipment 

         Ensure servicing and maintenance of Windward Industries vehicle

         Organise, when required, maintenance to Windward Industries facilities and equipment

 

Other

         Be actively involved in long term planning, with particular emphasis on matters pertaining to own work area

         Oversee input into Kyeema Newsletter and Kyeema’s social media

 

Financial and Budget

           Develop budgets for Windward industries in liaison with the Finance team if requested

           Monitor financial sustainability of own work areas by use of Profit and Loss reporting from the Finance team

           Prepare funding submissions, where appropriate, for special projects or equipment.

 

General

Kyeema Support Services endeavours to provide the best service possible for people who have a disability. To do so we must remain flexible, and able to adapt to peoples changing needs. It is acknowledged that such flexibility may impact on the key task areas as listed above. It is the responsibility of the Windward Manager and the CEO and Finance team to monitor any significant adjustments to the above as required.

 

Skills and Qualities required for position of Windward Industries Manager 

The following are a mix of qualities, skills and experience required for the position of Windward Industries Manager

 

           An understanding of the NDIS’ Supported Employment model

           The ability to think quickly and provide hands on approach to emergency situations

           Key knowledge and understanding of NDIS practice standards

           Ability to initiate and maintain contacts with a broad range of people and community organisations

           Ability to relate to the people we support, families and staff and other stakeholders of Kyeema

           Organisational Skills

           Administrative, report writing and IT skills as required for the software in use

           Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

           Demonstrated ability to abide by Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
