Overview
Participants’ families are an integral part of their lives. As such they form an important part of the support network surrounding participants and should have influence over the way the organisation is run.
Kyeema currently involves families/carers in a number of ways that include the following:
• Representation at monthly Board of Management meetings
• Involvement in the annual participant self-assessment process within Kyeema
• Quarterly Family & Carers Catch-ups that are held to promote feedback from families on the standard of Kyeema’s services
• Carer Meetings and Days are held on a minimum bi-monthly basis within Kyeema programs
• At the request of the participant family members are involved in the support planning process. Many family members email or drop in to discuss issues or concerns and this is encouraged.
• Meetings and Consultations involving special projects and the future directions of Kyeema Programs
• Support with the Kyeema’s annual Spring Sale Day
• Supporting their family member through a service auditing interview process
• Assisting with fundraising activities as required
Kyeema undertakes to assist participants to maintain positive family and cultural connections.
In relation to Children’s Services:
• The role of family members is acknowledged in making decisions and choices.
• Kyeema recognises the importance of providing support for families of children with a disability by providing dedicated children’s services.
The main goal of Kyeema and its staff is to ensure that families/carers of service users are welcome to be involved with many activities within Kyeema.
