Lalor Street Evacuation Procedure relates to all:
• STAFF
• PARTICIPANTS
• VISITORS who are present
Purpose:
To ensure all Lalor Street staff & Participants are aware of the correct evacuation protocol in case of fire, emergencies or other critical incidents in the building.
• At least one Staff member is to be the nominated Fire Warden.
• Fire Drills must be conducted at least 4 times per year.
• If an emergency occurs, all Staff must follow these instructions, and / or the direction of the nominated Fire Warden.
• An Fire Evacuation Pack is located in the Admin area next to the Key cupboard. The Kyeema Respite & Independent Living Programs Manager and in ‘The Woodbox’ workshop office.
• The Evacuation Pack contents are to include:
− 2 torches and spare batteries
− A yellow Fire Warden hat
− Pen and paper
− Portable First Aid pack
− List of emergency contact phone numbers

Emergency Fire Evacuation Procedure
• The Emergency signs at exit points are to be followed or use nearest exit.
• A Fire Warden is to ensure all evacuation packs are taken from the building
• Assist any person in immediate danger, if safe to do so
• Close the door and raise the alarm
• Contact Emergency Services – 000 via a mobile phone
• Attack fire if safe to do so
• Check areas of building, to assess if all people have evacuated
• Close doors behind you as you exit the workplace
• Evacuate to the Assembly areas as shown on the Evacuation Plans
• Day Programs Assembly Area is in the front garden north of the building
• Remain at assembly areas until further advised
• Staff are responsible for the participants in the programs they are managing
Fire Warden Responsibilities
• To help people to evacuate quickly and calmly.
• Do a final check to ensure everyone is out and all doors are shut
• Help with first aid
• Liaise with emergency services
• Give the OK to re-enter the building
• To wear the yellow Fire Warden hat
People with Disabilities
If you are assisting with the evacuation of a person with a disability, you must evacuate them to designated safe Assembly areas. If you are unable to evacuate the person, notify the Fire Warden immediately.
Staff Responsibilities and Procedure
• Never ignore an emergency alarm or warning.
• Respond to alarm without delay.
• Ensure that there is minimal removal of belongings.
Additional Emergency & Fire Prevention Guidelines
• If the emergency occurs out of hours when our identified Fire Wardens may not be present, ALL staff on-site are considered to be Fire Wardens, and are responsible for initiating and following the Fire Emergency Evacuation Procedures.
• Head Warden to take base handset of walkie talkie
• As listed on emergency information board located in Lalor Street corridor and at other locations in the building
