Kyeema Support Services commits to ethical, respectful and safe service delivery which meets, legislative requirements and achieves positive outcomes for people with disability.

 

Kyeema embraces Human Rights principles that underpin all of the Disability Standards, each of which supports the achievement of basic rights such as self-determination, choice, privacy and freedom from abuse or neglect.

 

•    Human Rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1945, are based on the dignity and worth of all human persons and in the equal rights of men and women.

•    Kyeema recognises that people with disabilities have the same rights that are constitutionally afforded to all Australian citizens.

•    Kyeema will actively support participants to understand their rights and the rights of others, as well as provide the knowledge on how to make a complaint. This will be done through their Support Plan process, Speaking Up Meetings, Participant Forum Days, other relevant meetings, advocates and VALID.

•    Training for staff about rights and complaints procedures will take place through Induction Days, Planning Days, Team Meetings.

•    Parents/Carers and Advocates will have training about rights through Family and carer meetings, VALID and/or as requested.

•    Advocacy support is available to participants and families through local community advocates, Southwest Advocacy, VALID.

•    Kyeema has reporting measures for all Kyeema staff and programs to safeguard the people we support. Any possible infringement of an individuals’ rights will be reviewed and appropriately managed by the CEO and/or Managers. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

-   Behaviour Support Planning

-   Information from Participant Surveys

-   Advocacy

-   Incidents and injury reports

-   Complaints 

-   Any practices or procedures that infringe the rights of any person.

•    Kyeema will also ensure that when required, participants will give consent to do such things as access their files for auditing purposes, or place their photo in the public domain. As part of this process a consent form must be signed by the participant, or Nominee.
